While it's always helpful to have some technical experience, it is not a requirement to become a host. In fact, operators may decide on sending technicians from their company (or partners) to set things up, similar to the way internet service providers come to your home to set up internet access when you first become their client.

After installation and registration on the network, you are eligible for payment as long as there's ongoing proof of connectivity - for example, the equipment is up and running, bandwidth and throughput speeds are met, etc. Most of this is done in the background similar to the way you don't need to monitor your own WiFi router after the initial setup.
